The mission of the Family Care Council is to advocate, educate, and empower individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, partnering with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD), to bring quality services to individuals for dignity and choice.

The Family Care Council (FCC) is not a provider of services.  The FCC is comprised of volunteers from within the area's developmental disability community, i.e., individuals who have a developmental disability or a family member or guardian of a person with a developmental disability.   The FCC was established through Florida Statute 393.502 and each of the 14 area councils are allowed up to 15 members, at least three of which must be a person with a developmental disability.   One of the primary goals of Area 1 is to help empower individuals and families through educational resources and speakers.   Knowledge is power!
